Minutes-Special Board Meeting-June 12, 2010
The meeting was called to order at 11:00 am by Chairman LeRoy Sandridge. Board members present were LeRoy Sandridge, Chairman; Wes Mohns, Supervisor; Harvey Olund, Supervisor and Marcia Kampf, Clerk.
Purpose: To consider opening ATV routes on Hwy MD proposed by the Recreation Committee. Opening these routes would provide access to Hobo’s Hideout Resort, Marawaraden Resort, Pioneer Resort, and Props Sports Bar as well as the Town Boat landing for ATV riders.
Gary Koel presented the proposal from the recreation committee. He passed out a letter from the Recreation Committee with a map outlining the portions of Highways M & D to be opened. If the Town approves the proposal, they will take it to the Washburn County Highway Department for final approval.
Marcia read letters from residents regarding their views on this subject. Most were supportive of the proposal.
Bill Austin explained the Planning Commission’s decision to not support the proposal. They were concerned about safety and didn’t feel it affected business that much. Discussion followed. Allan Barta expressed his view that opening Highway M would be dangerous and could cause safety issues for riders and pedestrians.
Wes Mohns expressed that the roads could be opened and then rescinded later if it proved to be a problem.
A motion was made by Wes and seconded by Harvey to delay the decision to open the roads until the July Board meeting. Motion carried.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 12:00 noon by Wes. It was seconded by Harvey. Motion carried.
