Town of Long Lake Plan Commission
Special combined meeting – Planning Commission & Town Board
Meeting Minutes – April 1, 2010

Because of a delay in the starting time and the purpose of the combined meeting being to review the variance application for Greg Deppe, chairman Austin temporarily delayed approval of the minutes and Old Business and went directly to the variance request.
All of the Plan Commission and Town board members had previously inspected the site or were familiar with the site conditions/building challenges and shared the same concerns. John Hartman (contractor representing Greg Deppe) was present and able to answer building related questions. After a thorough discussion of the variance request and concerns, a motion was made by Barta, seconded by Romsos to approve the variance request with our recommendation regarding 1.) mitigating water run-off to lake and neighbors property 2.) inspect (upgrade) the septic system to meet current standards 3.) removal of metal storage shed and 4.) removal of the old out-house. Chairman Austin will provide a memorandum to Zoning stating the recommendations of the Plan Commission and Town Board relative to the approval. The recommendation’s memo will be attached to the variance approval when submitted to zoning by the town clerk. A role call vote was held. Voting For approval: Mohns, Haessig, Barta, Austin, Romsos, Olund and Sandridge. Opposed – none. Town board members were thanked and excused to leave.
Roll Call (Plan Commission) – All members present
Motion made by Allan Barta to approve minutes of the March 4, 2010 Plan Commission meeting as written, second by Bill Austin, motion carried.
Old Business: Leroy Sandridge advised that Attorney Theil’s office told him they would have something for him by the 4-13 annual meeting regarding the Morningside property. The Plan Commission’s Recommendations regarding building inspector reporting and the permitting process were distributed to Olund and Mohns before they left the meeting. It is hopeful time will permit further discussion of these recommendations and a plan for their implementation at the next town board meeting.
The boat landing meeting and the joint May meeting are still on track. Bill Austin will contact LLPA President Brad Ray to identify all special participants, their subject matter and to establish a timetable in following the requested Agenda that the Commission prepared for the meeting.

Chairman Bill Austin distributed copies of his e-mail correspondence with Zoning (Webster “Web” Macomber). It was agreed to proceed forward with development of a brochure outlining the “permitting process” and related Town of Long Lake ordinances. The brochure would be available for any Long Lake property owner. County Zoning would be asked to present this brochure to anyone requesting a land use permit or variance in Long Lake Township.
It was pointed out to Chairman Austin that Madge township minutes indicate they are discussing similar issues to ours and that perhaps we could share each other’s goals and accomplishments. Chairman Austin will contact Mike Baker and proceed to identify ways we can implement Inter-County government cooperation between our two Planning Commissions.
Public input at this meeting - none
Next scheduled meeting date – May 6, 2010 (Joint Meeting with LLPA and invited speakers)
The meting adjourned at 7:30 PM..

Respectfully Submitted,
Eugene Romsos
